My love affair with food trucks started before there were food trucks in DFW, with a visit to the food trailers in Austin. Then, July 4, 2011, while back in Austin, I watched an episode of Eat St. on The Cooking Channel and and a blog focusing on DFW food trucks was born. Fast forward 20 months and Eat St has now filmed in Dallas and as season 4 debuts is releasing a cookbook of street food recipes from the US, Canada and the UK.  When Eat St. asked if I would be interested in doing a review of the new cookbook and a give-away to one of my readers I, of course, said yes!

The cookbook subtitle is "Recipes from the Tastiest  Messiest, and Most Irresistible Food Trucks".  I would add "With Beautiful Pictures".   If you have ever watched the Eat St. Show, (and if you haven't go ahead and mark your calendar to watch this summer when the Dallas trucks are scheduled) you know that the show leaves your mouth watering and your mind thinking about the tasty street food from around the world. This cookbook does exactly the same thing but now you can walk in to your own kitchen and bring the food to life.

My home cooked dinner tomorrow night will be Kung Pao Chicken using the recipe from The Rice Box truck in Houston.  The recipe spells everything out clearly, so I am looking forward to trying my hand at what is descried as "old school Chinese food served up with American flair".      This weekend, when I have some time I am venturing way outside my cooking comfort zone and trying my hand at Canada's favorite food, poutine with what sounds to me like a Texas twist, using the Nacho Grande Poutine recipe from Smoke of Toronto, Canada.

The cookbook has over 125 recipes including many from Texas trucks that have been featured in Seasons 1 through 3 of Eat St.    Anyone want to try a recipe from Austin's The Mighty Cone or Chi'lantro's Hawaiian Bulgogi Burger recipe  Both are included!

All of the recipes are easy to follow and have beautiful pictures to accompany them.  This cookbook is going to be my go-to when I want to cook something unique or when I want some of my favorites from Texas trucks but can't make the drive to Austin or Houston.  And it is going to give me many ideas of truck cuisine that is popular in other cities so I can start begging and pleading to have those types of trucks open in DFW...seriously, we need a poutine truck!

Eat St. has also given me a copy of this cookbook to give to one of you.  To be eligible to win just leave a comment on this blog telling everyone what type of food you would like to see on the streets of DFW, that we don't already have.   Poutine, lobster, cheesecake, you name  it by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 and you are entered to win.  After 5:00 on Saturday, I will randomly draw a number that corresponds to the number of entries and that person will win their own copy of the Eat St. Cookbook. Be sure to check back on Saturday night or Sunday to find out if you are a winner.

And if you don't win, no worries  you can purchase the Eat St. Cookbook beginning April 2 from your favorite US book retailer.
