New Trucks Will Make DFW's Summer Sizzle

Things have been relatively slow on the new truck roll outs.  No surprise, we usually see most new trucks come out at the beginning of fall or beginning of spring, so that the truck owners can maximize their sales and build a following before the extreme temperatures impact food traffic. Several of the new trucks are cold dessert trucks so they should be instant successes in their respective service areas. With all of these trucks, this summer will be tasty as well as sizzling!

Happy Camper's Shaved Ice is an old-fashioned shaved ice, lemonade and float truck operating in Denton. The shaved ice comes in a variety of flavor, sweet, sour or even a chili salt, which I assume to be spicy.  The lemonade is hand squeezed with no artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup.  The floats are the old school variety with coke, root beer, orange cream or watermelon flavors. Follow Happy Campers on Facebook or Twitter to find out where they will be serving.

Lee Malone's is Denton's slider truck.  I have not communicated with this truck's owners so I do not know much about their specialty items but based on their Facebook and Twitter feeds they seem to do a lot of late night service on Fry Street.  Sounds like the perfect location...college kids, live music and sliders.  you can follow Lee Malone's on Facebook and Twitter.

The Crazy Pig is a Dallas based truck that has a very eclectic menu and daily specials.  The truck's website describes their menu as a modern American restaurant with a seasonal menu and has things like gourmet wings, various sandwiches and even ramen noodles.  I'm anxious to try this truck and see if the taste matches up to the creativity.  You can follow them on Facebook and Twitter for their schedule.

The Smoke Wagon is a new truck from Fred's Texas Cafe. The truck serves all the barbecue standards you would expect, using Outlaw Chef's line of sauces. Fred's Smoke Wagon is usually posted up at Clearfork Food Park. You can follow them on Facebook for more specifics.

What's Da Scoop?is the newest truck from the group that brings you Gandolfo's New York Deli and The Butcher's Son. This ice cream serves ice cream from Wisconsin and has already become a favorite of those from the North Central part of the US, many of whom have told me that they are having flavors that they have not tasted in many years.  Even if ice cream isn't your dessert of choice, it is worth tracking down this truck just to see the giant art work on top of the truck. You can follow What's Da Scoop on Facebook and Twitter to find out where they will be scooping.

There are also several interesting trucks that plan to make their debut opening within the next month.

Bobaddiction will be Dallas' first Boba Tea and Shaved Snow truck. This truck is owned by 3 friends who want to share their culture with people of Dallas. The tea will be fruit and milk flavored teas and was a recent success at the Dallas International Festival, even without the truck.  Bobaddiction will also be bringing a new Taiwan dessert, Shaved Snow to the streets.  The truck owners have described this as a cross between shaved ice and frozen yogurt, topped with fresh fruit.  I cannot wait to try this!  You can follow Bobaddiction on Facebook and Twitter to find out when they will launch.

Crackhead Pies is fulfilling one of my thoughts on what is missing from the DFW Street Food Scene. (If you didn't catch that blog post, it can be found here)  This truck will offer pies of all types, sweet and savory.  One of the owners tells me that their pies have been very successful as a home-based business so they are ready to take it to the streets. I look forward to not only traditional pies like pecan and meringue but also to try the chicken pot pies and jalapeno grits pie.  Follow Crackhead Pies on Facebook  to find out their launch date.

The Food Station is a truck based on the need to feed children in Dallas. The truck is owned by the charity group D Cares and has a mission to serve those children who do not have hot, nutrition meals in their homes.  The Food Station will be out daily serving gourmet meals around Dallas and then, in off-hours will travel to low-income housing areas to serve complimentary nutritious meals.  The owner of The Food Station has quite a bit of experience working on other Dallas food trucks and is very excited to see her mission come to life through this truck. Follow The Food Station on Twitter or their website to get more information about their organization.
